If you were to ask me, ‘How do Woody the German Shepherd dog and Karen the cat get along?’ I would probably say something like, ‘Good, for the most part, well sometimes…’ Haha, that’s mostly a joke…the truth is they honestly do get along…now.

When I first brought Karen home, he was terrified of Woody. And Woody was so thrilled that another animal, even if it were a cat, was in his house, he didn’t stop vibrating with excitement for 4 days! Once they got over their initial apprehensions and excitements, Karen was always running away from Woody, because Woody always wanted to pick Karen up by the scruff of his neck and carry him around like a rag doll!

Fast forward to the present day and Woody and Karen are just like brothers…they love each other but don’t seem to hesitate to pick a fight with the other! Many times Karen has been playing nicely on his own with his favorite mousy toy and as soon as Woody can sneak in, he will fetch the toy away from Karen! But Karen always does get back at Woody…almost every evening after his dinner, Woody will find a sunny spot in the living room and have a little nap. Just as he gets comfortable and drifts into sleep, Karen will pounce on Woody’s tail and use it as a personal batting toy!

But then they also have those moments between them that melt my heart - When Woody and I are outside, Karen will sit at the door or window, watch us and cry and howl and carry on like us being outside was the biggest tragedy ever! Or they can always be found snuggling together on Woody’s bed in the wee hours of the morning - a big burly dog and a sweet little cat curled up together in slumber. Or when Woody is trying to entice Karen to play with him, Woody will grab one of his stuffed animals and shove it in Karen’s face until Karen plays with it, then Woody will pull the toy away in the hopes that Karen will chase him. Karen never does, but Woody always tries!

Who said cats and dogs don't get along?
